A bespoke online shop for students and teachers
A bespoke online shop for students and teachers
An ageing website turned into an online shop for digital teaching resources, books and magazines, with separate accounts for students and teachers.
01 Why Statamic
I build with WordPress too, so I'm not here to bash it. But for a lot of businesses, Statamic is simply the better fit.
The control panel is clean and simple, and I set it up around your content, so you only see the fields you actually need. Adding a page or changing a price shouldn't need a manual.
No bloated themes or stacks of plugins. Statamic sites are lean from day one, which gives you a head start on Google's Core Web Vitals.
By default, Statamic stores content in files rather than a database, and doesn't rely on dozens of third-party plugins. Fewer moving parts means fewer updates and fewer security headaches.
Statamic runs on Laravel, one of the most popular PHP frameworks around. If you ever need something custom, like a booking system or a members' area, it can be built right into the same site.
Because content lives in files, the whole site can be version-controlled with Git. Every change is recorded, and rolling something back is easy.
Every page type and field is designed for the content you actually have, so the site fits your business rather than the other way round.
02 What I can do
Designed and built from scratch, with a control panel set up around how you work. Includes training and a written guide, so you're confident editing it yourself.
Fed up with plugin updates and a slow site? I can move your content across to Statamic, keep your URLs and set up redirects, so you don't lose your Google rankings.
If your Statamic site was built by someone who's no longer around, I can pick it up, tidy it up and look after it from here.
Keeping Statamic, Laravel and PHP up to date, with updates tested before they go live. Available as part of a care plan.
Members' areas, booking systems and integrations with the tools you already use, built in Laravel right alongside your content.
Short on Statamic capacity? I take on white-label design and development work for agencies, delivered under your name.

04 Getting started
Half an hour on a call. What the business needs, what's in the way, what you can spend.
One page: scope, price, dates. Nothing starts until you've said yes to it.
I'll get cracking and develop your website - you're kept in the loop at regular intervals.
The full project launched and yours to keep. I press the button, watch it for a fortnight, and show you how to run it.
05 Straight answers
Anything missing? Ask me directly and I'll give you a straight answer, not a sales one.
A content management system (CMS), like WordPress, built on the Laravel framework. It's what you use to edit your website's pages, blog posts and images. By default it stores content in files rather than a database, which keeps sites quick and simple to look after.
It depends on what you need. Statamic Core is free and works well for a lot of small business sites. If you need more than one user account, revisions or multi-site, you'll need Statamic Pro, which is currently $349 per site, plus $99 a year for updates after the first year. I'll tell you which one you need before we start.
Not always - it depends on the project. Statamic is usually quicker, more secure and easier to look after for content-led sites, while WordPress has a much bigger ecosystem of plugins and developers. I build with both, so I'll recommend whichever suits you best. Take a look at my WordPress page too.
Yes. I'll move your pages, blog posts and images across, keep your URLs the same where possible and set up redirects for anything that changes, so you don't lose the rankings you've built up.
Yes. I'll take a look first to check which version it's on and how it's been built, then let you know honestly what it needs.
Statamic needs proper PHP hosting rather than a website builder plan. I can host it for you as part of a care plan, or set it up on hosting of your choice.
A couple of lines is plenty. I reply to everything within a working day, even if the answer is “I'm not the right fit”.
