A bespoke online shop for students and teachers
An ageing website turned into an online shop for digital teaching resources, books and magazines, with separate accounts for students and teachers.
01 Why custom WordPress
Most slow, hard-to-manage WordPress sites aren't WordPress's fault. They're down to how they were built.
Drag-and-drop builders make sites slow and fiddly to maintain. I build custom themes by hand, so your site only loads what it actually needs.
I use flexible content blocks, so you can build and rearrange pages yourself from a set of ready-made sections that always look right.
Every plugin is another thing to update and another thing that can break. I only use the ones that earn their place, and build the rest into the theme.
Lean code, optimised images and proper caching give your site a head start on Google's Core Web Vitals.
If you or your team have used WordPress before, you'll feel right at home. And if you ever move on, plenty of other developers know their way around it.
The theme, content, domain and accounts are all in your name. Nothing's tied to me.
02 What I can do
Designed and built from scratch with a custom theme, plus training and a written guide so you can run it yourself.
Online shops built on WooCommerce, from adding a shop to your existing site to a fully custom store.
Tracking down what's slowing your site down - hosting, plugins, images or the theme itself - and fixing it properly.
Inherited a WordPress site nobody understands? I'll take a look, tidy it up and look after it from here.
WordPress, plugin and PHP updates, tested before they go live, with daily backups. Available as part of a care plan.
If WordPress is causing more trouble than it's worth, I can move your site to Statamic without losing your rankings.

04 Getting started
Half an hour on a call. What the business needs, what's in the way, what you can spend.

I'll get cracking and develop your website - you're kept in the loop at regular intervals.

05 Straight answers
Anything missing? Ask me directly and I'll give you a straight answer, not a sales one.
No. I build custom themes by hand. Page builders make it easy to get started, but they tend to make sites slower and harder to maintain over time. You'll still be able to build and edit pages yourself using flexible content blocks.
Usually, yes. I'll find out what's actually causing it - often hosting, plugins, images or the theme - and fix the biggest problems first. If you want to try a few things yourself, start with my 5 tips to speed up your WordPress website.
Yes. I'll take a look first to see how it's been built and what state it's in, then let you know honestly what it needs.
Yes. Adding a shop to your existing website starts from £750, and a fully bespoke online shop starts from £2,400. There's more on my ecommerce page.
It depends on the project. WordPress is great if you need its plugins or your team already knows it. Statamic is often quicker and easier to look after. I build with both, so I'll recommend whichever suits you - see my Statamic page for more.
WordPress needs regular updates to stay secure, and skipping them is one of the most common ways sites get into trouble. A care plan covers updates, backups and small changes, so it's one less thing to think about.
A couple of lines is plenty. I reply to everything within a working day, even if the answer is “I'm not the right fit”.
